About Annemarie Halfpap

Goin' Fishing before

"Many years ago, when I was in college, I took this photograph on the left, yes with film. I absolutely loved it, but something was just not right. I stared at it for ages trying to figure out what the problem was. I finally gave in and took it to my professor. Fortunately we met at his studio, because as soon as he saw it he asked for the negative and we went into the darkroom. He processed the photo backwards and then I saw it, "leading lines".

We do almost everything left to right, that is how we read. Our eyes automatically flow that way, and as you can see, the photograph on the left flows right to left. By flipping it the flow was just right, and so was the photograph.

That lesson set me on a path to appreciate what the eye sees, and how. Through the years I have tried to look at things in a way I would otherwise never have. This is how I approach my photography. I want to capture the moment the way I see it. Sometimes that takes staring at what is in front of me to figure out the angle that is just right. Or flipping it later . . ."

Bio: Annemarie Halfpap was born in Canada to English parents, and spent the first part of her life traveling back and forth between the two countries. Her father, a minister, decided they should explore more of the world, the Orient, Australia, and eventually moving his family to settle in the U.S.. Annemarie was mentored by a friend of her mother, a staff photographer at Kitt Peak Observatories in Arizona. She continued her training as a photographer by attending college when her children were little, and working whenever she could.

Annemarie, like her father, loves to explore new places. After raising her family she has set off to capture as much of the world as she can. She has made her "Bucket List", and one-by-one you will be able to watch her tick things off. Check out her portfolio link that will take you to her Flickr page which will continually be added to.
